Magnetic Amplifier

Study of different configurations of a magnetic amplifier.

Magnetic amplifier consists of combination of saturable reactors, rectifiers and load used to secure controlled amplification. In a magnetic amplifier, the load current is controlled by a DC magnetizing current, which is very low as compared to load current. To control this load current, a saturable reactor is used. The reactance of the provided reactor depends on the magnetic coupling which in turn depends upon the DC control current. Thus, the load current controlled by the magnetic amplifier is mainly used in series, parallel and self saturated magnetic amplifier. Ammeters are provided for indicating load current and control current. A knob is provided to control the control current. All connections are brought to front panel through terminals. Different configurations of magnetic amplifier can be demonstrated with this unit.

The entire setup is enclosed in a powder coated MS box.
