Generator Protection (Merz Price Scheme)

This experimental setup consists of:

a) Three phase induction motor – 5hp/415V/1440 rpm (ABBmake) coupled to 3 phase, 3 KVA /415V/50 Hz/1500 rpm salient pole alternator.

b) Three phase Resistive load – 415V @5A.

c) Generator protection scheme fault study unit. 

Generator protection scheme fault study unit consists of:

a) Three phase variable frequency AC drive - 5hp / 415V.

b) C&S make numerical differential relay for Merz Price protection study.

c) Digital three phase over current relay.

d) Digital over voltage, over frequency and negative phase sequence relay. 

e) Thermal relay.

f) Multifunction meter to measure voltage, current, frequency and power.

g) Digital time interval meter to measure trip time.

h) Digital RPM meter to display motor speed.

i) Variable DC supply for alternator field.

j) Switches to create faults – LG, LL, LLG and LLLG faults.

k) Switches to create phase failure and phase reversal.

l) Necessary switches and indicators.
